FAQ

How competitive are you with mail order gold buyers, pawn shops, and jewelry stores?

If you’re considering selling your gold, shop around for the best price.  We’re confident that after you shop around, you’ll find that we offer the best cash prices for gold in Oklahoma City.   In fact, Michael Bay Estate Buyers was recently featured offering the best prices for jewelry in the undercover news story “Turn Your Gold into Cash” broadcast by KFOR NewsChannel 4.

Do I need an appointment?

Yes, we work by appointment only to ensure we give each person the necessary time to evaluate all of their items. We know your time is valuable and don’t want you to have to wait for other customers when you come in.

What can I expect during the appointment?

It is a very simple process. You will be invited to sit at the front desk where we will look at the items you have brought. All of our scales and equipment needed are there so your items are never out of your sight. Once we evaluate your items we will explain what we have found and what we can pay for each item. It is then completely up to you whether or not to sell each item. We do not charge for the appointment.

Can you test karat weight? How?

Yes, many times the karat weight is stamped on the jewelry somewhere. If it is not, or if the stamp is hard to distinguish, then we use an acid testing method.

There are 9kt, 14kt, 18kt and 22k testing acids.?The process is simple, we scratch or rub the metal (jewelry) onto the testing stone.?Then we place a drop of the closest acid to the karat we estimate the metal to be.
• If the acid dissolves the metal it’s less than the karats on the bottle and we will try again with lower level acid.
• If the metal stays it’s most likely the karat of the acid in the bottle.

How do you weigh the jewelry?

We weigh the jewelry on a very sensitive, precise gram scale. This same scale is used to weigh loose diamonds by using the Carat function of the scale.

If I decide to sell my item(s) how am I paid?

You will be written a business check.  You can choose to deposit the check into your bank account or drive the very short distance (about 1/4 mile) to our bank and cash the check.
